One of my greatest struggles lately is to do and live out my priorities. There were certain moments that I thought I did what I should do. But for some reason, I still caught myself complacent about the things I did, the decisions that I have made. I wasn’t completely aware that I am slipping away from my priorities. One day I realized how these decisions I made and/or not having one, turned out to mess up my current state a little. My life is a little messed up, again. Now what I need is a (major) priority check.
- I need to go back to know what my priorities are, especially in this season I’m in.
- Realign the things that are important and not.
- Dissect the things that helped me live a balanced life and the things that became a hindrance or distraction to living out these priorities.
- Be deliberate in taking necessary action for one’s development and growth.
Throughout the years that I, being typically goal-oriented, fought hard to live up accordingly to everything planned. And as season change and pass by my priorities changed as well. If to graduate and finish school was my top priority now it’s gotta be my career. Despite how the goal and or priorities have changed I realized I fall short on the process for the same reason, and that is to compromise the rest of my priorities and focus on the most important one. Don’t get me wrong it is good to set your mind to what is most important for you. But I set my mind too much on things in my list as the top priority that I started to neglect other important things in my life as well. For example, if I put my career as my top priority, my family comes second. Tendencies are, I will focus too much to attain the good things for my career, and I would often neglect to give time to my family. Even if I know that I have to give time for them, I will end up choosing to either work still or spend my free time doing other things non-related to my goals. As I’ve said that it’s not wrong to focus on your goals but often times we do otherwise (or is it just me?). I have to go back again to the things I put as my priority and balance them all together not just one of them. And I have to recall what are the things I’ve done that and examine if it was part of my priority. What my mentor used to tell me that all of them are important and what you put first the most defines the rest of your priorities. For example, if you put your job first, the rest of your priorities or your decision-making process depend on your first priority. That means if family comes next, how you handle your time and effort and other matters about your family your job is affected or has become your deciding factor. So it is important what you put first because everything revolves around it and that you will also know how to balance them altogether. Personally, my relationship and devotion to my Creator have always been my first priority. It has become a struggle lately since I am too focused on my personal goals in life, even living the life that seemed directed to it. I forgot how I was even there in the first place. Both are important to me. My goals and dreams are important, and so is my relationship with Him. I often forget that I have to keep it balanced because there is always a time for everything. I sometimes compromise personal time for unnecessary things like playing online games. There is a lot of distraction that needs to be filtered and removed. And it’s okay to mess up a little, or got sidetracked a little but always go back in the right lane. No matter what season I and you are in right now we all need the time to check how well are we living our lives. Yes, we have goals but it isn’t just what we are about or who we are. Setting priorities allow you to be aware of what direction you want your life to take in. It helps you set the goals that you have accordingly.
